Amazon.com This is the black filiment I have, the white one came with my printer. Also I plan on printing a poster from the LA downtown library of chess boards then laminate them at Staples. I'll pay you $20 for a hnefatafl game made with a libre license, *good* ai(so I can play by myself), and works on android or gnu/linux. Both would be preferable. For a second there I forgot how to play chess! 😮 BRAIN FART Red Squirrel No Lifer May 24, 2003 71,340 14,093 126 www.anyf.ca Make the Chess board out of a full size PCB panel with RFID sensors in each square and put RFID chips in each piece. Code the game logic to track the state of the game and detect moves and determine if they are legal or not. Can also add magnets in the pieces and coils on the board so the pieces can be moved automatically, such as when setting up a new game. Can also implement a "Rage quit mode" where it flings all the pieces off the board. I joke... but this could have been a fun computer science project back in the day. Reactions: igor_kavinski, Ken g6, Pohemi and 1 other person D dr1337 Senior member May 25, 2020 549 837 136 Its funny to me how many people on this site are seemingly anti-3d printing, even searching around. I saw someone in a completely different thread say that 3d printing is hard to learn back in a 2022 which is extra hilarious considering the cheap ender 3 revolution was like 2019. its a decent print for someone whos a noob. just need to tune that retraction or maybe dry the filament and you'd have some flawless pieces. also gotta ditch those rafts don't listen to the haters. Why buy a chess set when you can spawn one in the comfort of your own home with supplies already on hand, in only a few hours? It gets even better when you're actually modeling things yourself and getting fancy with the filaments. Personally I love PETG and all its transparent possibilities. but as for the business idea, not totally out of the question but lol OP has a lot of competition, lotsa people be trying to sell custom 3d printed chess sets. You can also print things that aren't commercially available, and one offs that can't be produced any other way. An entry level printer that produces good quality prints can be had for $250. I've been considering buying one, but I'm only interested in printing things I'll actually use. After those ten or fifteen items I don't know what I'd do with it other than making router patterns, and my laser is actually better for that. Red Squirrel No Lifer May 24, 2003 71,340 14,093 126 www.anyf.ca The cool thing about printing is being able to have something right away instead of having to order it and wait days or weeks. And sometimes it's simply something you can't buy anywhere. Like say a plastic part on a product breaks, you can print a new one. I don't, and have no desire to learn it. Lightburn has given me enough headaches. Red Squirrel No Lifer May 24, 2003 71,340 14,093 126 www.anyf.ca Yeah I still need to figure out a decent CAD program that will work in Linux before I get into 3D printing, and I'm not a fan of cloud based stuff, I won't touch Fusion just out of principle. FreeCAD is about the only thing in Linux and it's a huge pain to use, it's like someone had a contest to design the worse UX and won and they used that.
